A1GP: Well done again Team Malaysia

A1GP - Alex Yoong in action

The 4th round of the A1GP season at Eastern Creek in Australia just ended. The race was won by France, followed by Britain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Malaysia.

Once again Team Malaysia had a strong and consistent race. Team Malaysia again showed a lot of maturity, with Alex defending well and not putting a foot wrong.

Our 5th place finished should in theory create a support boost for the Team when A1GP visits Malaysia in a couple of weeks’ time.

So far Team Malaysia has shown a lot of promise. In the last round at Estoril, Fairuz Fauzy demonstrated some race skill by passing others when other drivers were failing, although ultimately in Estoril we were thwarted by yet another pitstop gremlin.

The difference in performance between Malaysia and second place (GB) was not that significant although France seemed to be on another level. So there’s a lot of hope for Team Malaysia.

After 4 rounds, Malaysia is in tenth overall on 23 points, although as ever it could have been more if not for the troubles in round 2 and 3. So the underlying performance is there.

The key is for Team Malaysia to continue improving relative to the others. Support is vital now, if Malaysia wishes to create some impression in what is a new series.

wasted!

Happy Deepavali and Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for me. I have been practically wasted since Wednesday after being hit by a major virus. Not enjoying the Hari Raya today since I have lost my taste buds. Hopefully things will improve later today.

Things to adopt from other drupal themes

Been swapping themes on this website, and note some good practices that I’d like to adopt for my default site.

  1. vertically aligned search box in the top menu: alternate / lincoln’s revenge does it well
  2. clean layouts like a printed page: chameleon does this well
  3. blockquote techniques – the left bar at the indentation of the quote is good
  4. different type face for headline titles – say using Georgia to distinguish headline from body text
  5. lines to separate content blocks
  6. different block style for “sticky” blocks
  7. distinct menu headers like the type used by gworks
  8. simple clean design like pushbutton (is there a phptemplate version?) – like the large clear fonts and colours… the menu columns are nicely distinguished
  9. the squiggle dividers from Tokyo / Persian is a nice touch
  10. how do I make dropdown menus work?

Sci-fi books & movies

I make no secret that I am a sci-fi geek.

Sadly, I have not been recommended any good sci-fi stuff, given most of my friends and family think I am a geek and do not share any interest in sci-fi. So I have not read any sci-fi books of late – can’t remember the last book I read… *groan*

The Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies 1 (Rough Guide Reference)

Cover taken from John Scalzi’s book

Anyway, thought that I should log something I found on the web: I was tinkering with my wordpress website, The Mind of Paloque, and was going through the pre-installed links and found a blog belonging to Ryan Boren. The guy is also a sci-fi geek and posted a blog on John Scalzi’sThe Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies 1 (Rough Guide Reference)“. A synopsis from Amazon.com:

Synopsis

The Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies is a comprehensive guide to the ‘final frontier’ of film. It explores our fascination with space exploration, time travel, fantastical worlds and alternative futures. This guide explains how everything from the philosophy of Plato to classic Victorian tales and cult comic books have helped to create one of cinema’s most engaging genres. Discover the classics from Mexico, Russia and Japan, not forgetting the Anime science fiction tradition, along with everything else you need to know from Metropolis to Star Wars, via Blade Runner, 2001 and Alien. The Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies is your essential guide to a galaxy of film unbounded by time or space.

I think I should read a bit more. Rekindle some sci-fi interest. Do you have anything to share?
