Firefly / Serenity tops best sci-fi survey

Firefly was a shortlived sci-fi TV series set 500 years in the future in the new wild frontier of space.

Hooray!!!

I’m one of the converted “Firefly” fans. For those who said “huh?”, Firefly was a shortlived sci-fi TV series set 500 years in the future in the new wild frontier of space. The series only lasted one season before Fox pulled the plug.

This was a big disappointment to the fans of the show.

But all was not lost, Fox released the DVD box set, and the sales shot exceeded expectations showing how foolish Fox had been for axing the show. Now the movie spin-off Serenity is being released in the US to popular & critical acclaim.

Now a survey was recently conducted on NewScientistSpace.com showed that Firefly and its movie spin-off topped the charts of best sci-fi ever. Exaggerating perhaps, but shows the strong fan following and who so very wrong Fox was. (where is Blade Runner?).

going crpg after a long hiatus

It has been a while since I last really played any form of computer games, be in on the PS2, or on the PC. The last one I really enjoyed was Champions of Norrath and its sequel Return to Arms – both for the PS2. These games were given an 8.5 (great) and 7.8, respectively by Gamespot. Sony doing a great job on RPG games of late.

I was just browsing Happy Puppy to see of what are the upcoming interesting games, and chanced upon Fable: The Lost Chapters for the PC & XBox. This is an RPG with a twist in that the character you play can be moulded into as much of a do-gooder or a devil’s idle hand. It has been given an 8.7 (out of 10) score with an “M – Mature” ESRB rating.

Interesting. Might just try it out soon… but if only I have more time on my hands.

Wonderful things you can do with 3D

Sometime ago I was smitten by 3D modelling using Creative Labs’ Poser. Now in its 6th incarnation, I find Poser something which is still beyond my reach, comprehension and skills. Not that Poser is a difficult 3D tool – I doubt it given the many users – but it is more about me not being able to get the hand of it.

Nevertheless, there are lots of good stuffs out there, as I continue to find:

  1. DAZ3d – this is a high quality resource for Poser 3D models. It contents some highly developed models of people, animals and objects.
  2. then there is Renderosity – which is a marketplace of free and commercial stuff for 3D apps the likes of Poser and Bryce et al
  3. for the more risque (yeah, wink wink), you can go to Renderotica for your fix
